In case you didn't know already, the Bossier Press-Tribune began five-day-a-week publication this week. It has been great fun and something we have been wanting to do for a long time.
Here is the press release we sent out to our friends and colleagues about this exciting change.
BOSSIER CITY – The Bossier Press-Tribune began publishing on a five-day-a-week schedule today. According to Editor and Publisher David Specht Jr., the Press-Tribune will publish Monday through Friday afternoons.
"For many years, it has been the desire of the ownership and staff of the Bossier Press-Tribune to give the Bossier Parish community it's own daily newspaper," Specht said. "Today, that desire has become a reality."
According to Specht, the daily version of the Bossier Press-Tribune will not be that much different from its twice-weekly predecessor. "We are a community newspaper - that focus will not change," he said. "The type of news that has graced our pages for years will continue to be prominent - and more of it."
The daily Press-Tribune will be carrier-delivered to readers each afternoon. Specht said the frequency would improve the newspaper's ability to publish news in a more-timely manner.
"We will be able to inform our readers of breaking news and advertised specials - something that is crucial in today's fast-paced world," Specht said.
With more than twice the number of issues to produce each week, Specht said the daily Bossier Press-Tribune would expand its coverage and features to bring more content to readers. Some of the features in the daily edition will include comics, puzzles and television listings.
From a news standpoint, the daily Bossier Press-Tribune will also include some state, national and international news.
"When planning the daily edition, we recognized that our readers would like to be in the know on other news as well. Including some news from outside of Bossier will accomplish that," Specht said.
Advertising Manager Randy Brown said he is excited about the opportunities for local businesses in the daily Press-Tribune.
"Our advertisers have known for a long time the strong return on investment we give them," Brown said. "Now we can get their message out in a very timely manner, and with the kind of repetition it takes for a highly successful marketing campaign."
Specht announced the launch of the daily edition at a Bossier Chamber of Commerce "Afterhours" July 24. The crowd on hand at the Press-Tribune erupted in applause at the announcement.
"I was surprised at the enthusiasm of those who heard the announcement," Specht said.
"Not only did many businesspeople offer congratulatory sentiments, they thanked us for bringing Bossier its own daily newspaper."
Specht said the staff is ready to meet the needs of the community each day. "We are excited, and ready to get to work for Bossier," he said.
Now the work REALLY begins.

I like the title of this blog.
Every time I hear or see that phrase I think of the Bossier Paper and picture the house ad in my head.
