We all know I blog — and it is pretty much a given that I use Facebook. Then there is my Twitter account (@dspechtbossier). Did I mention that I am on LinkedIn? And, does anyone really use Plaxo anymore? "myspace?" said the dinosaur.
It has dawned on me that Social Media is taking over the world. (Ok, maybe I am a slow learner.) However, it seems that just one two, three or four social networks aren't enough these days.
If the social networks themselves are not enough, there are the social networking apps within the social network. Who really needs the MyBirthday app when Facebook tells you each morning who has a birthday? And, don't even get me started on branchout.
If all that weren't enough, we may all be forced into the latest social network, Google+. If you have a gmail account, or any other Google related presence, then you may already be there. Google is also tailoring it's search engine results based upon some of your Google+ and Gmail habits... Some call it specialized results, while others may think it is the social media version of "Big Brother."
It is already happening. Have you ever noticed that all the Google ads on a page usually reflect a merchant you may have just bought a product from? (cue the Twilight Zone music).
Depending on your personality type (they can discern that too) you may think this is great. Others may feel it a bit manipulative.
Regardless, it's not going away. The only answer is to not participate, and we all know that's not happening.
Where would we get those cute kitty photos with the clever captions if it weren't for social media?
May the Blog Be With You.
